The children of Polk County have proved otherwise, brining in more than $2200 for the American Cancer Society in only two weeks. Hardly a family, neighbor or friend has escaped the “nibbling" of these young Crusaders, who were determined to send as many mice as possible "to college” to aid in cancer research. Grand champions (and old hands) at fund raising were the students of Tryon Elementary and Middle School, who garnered some $1450 in an intensive one- week effort. Urged on by Chairman Kathy Potter, they left no pockets untouched in their search for nickels, dimes and quarters. Also ferreting out coins with unprecendented success were the school children of Sunny View. Stearns. Mill Spring and Saluda "It was fun for all." said Chairman Jo Ann Moss of Mill Spring. The kids really enjoyed their mission and had a chance to feel they had an important part in the overall crusade. Other "Mouse-to-College Chairmen were George Finnic, Stearns; Tom Johnson. Saluda and Rev John Godfrey of Sunny View. Winners in each of the schools will soon be announced. — Reporter Tigers And Patriots Split Doubleheader The Tryon Tigers and the Polk Central Patriots split a baseball doubleheader Thursday at Polk Central.
